This pattern has been substantially altered from the original to allow the knitter to use ANY yarn and work it up in ANY size. This is a universal pattern.
The body of this cardigan is knit in a circle from the center back outward. The "stained glass" effect--alternate garter-stitch stripes and two-stitch color changes with floats on the right side--is achieved with Lorna's Laces' "Shepherd Worsted" and piped with mohair-blend "Grace" boucle, also from Lorna's Laces.
The sweater moonlights as a shrug when worn with the shorter side on the bottom; the longer side folds into a dramatic shawl collar.
There is NO gauge required for this sweater. No matter what needle size or yarn weight you use, this pattern will WORK.
Sizing / Finished Measurements:
This pattern is not sized in a traditional, standard way, but you determine the sizing based on two simple measurements; the cross-front measurement (from armhole seam to armhole seam in when wearing a fitted T-shirt, just above the breasts) and the fingertip to fingertip measurement. Because of the individualized nature of this pattern, and because any weight of yarn can be used when making this garment, determining yarn yardages can be difficult. Use the amounts here as a guideline, but if this is the first time you are making the garment purchase extra yarn to be safe.
Amounts are based on worsted weight yarn. You may use any weight yarn to make this garment, but the yardages will change (more yardage is required for a thin yarn, less for bulky yarn.) Yarn A: 1040 (1300, 1560) yds; Yarn B: 400 (500, 600) yds; Yarn C: 280 (350, 420) yds
