I am a mostly stay-at-home wife. With our kids are grown, this time of life frees me to pursue my creativity. I teach fitness classes to senior citizens part-time and quilt, knit and crochet at home. I taught myself how to knit and crochet from magazines when I was a young teen, and haven't stopped since.View all patterns by designer (11) »
Welcome a brand new baby girl with this original pattern for a lacy baby sweater and matching cap. The body of the sweater is comprised of lace "thistles", with complimentary "clovers" on the bodice and sleeve caps.
Pattern makes a size newborn to 12 lbs, using baby weight yarn on size 3 needles. A larger size can be obtained by using larger gauge yarn and needle: For size 6 months use dk weight yarn with size 5 - 6 needles. For 9-12 months use worsted weight yarn with size 7 - 8 needles.
Yarn: Debbie Bliss Baby Cashmerino, 2 balls, for the smallest size.
Gauge (smallest size): In stockinette: 6 st/inch, 8 rows/inch
In thistle lace pattern: 5.5 st/inch, 8 rows/inch
This pattern is recommended for intermediate level knitters, and above.
If you don't enjoy sweater sew ups, you will appreciate that this pattern employs one-piece, nearly seamless construction. Minimal seaming required only at shoulders and about 1" at underarms. It's fast and painless to finish!
