Joan McGowan-Michael has been a professional fashion designer for more 25 years, styling garments for retailers as diverse as Frederick's of Hollywood and JC Penney. She founded her company, White Lies Designs, in 2001. It has since become the original go-to resource for lingerie patterns for hand knitting, and other romantic, vintage inspired knitwear styles in a wide range of sizes from petite to plus. Joan is a self-professed "fit geek" and incorporates dressmaker-style tailoring in many of her styles.
You've seen her work in Big Girl Knits, Stitch & Bitch Nation, and The Best of Interweave Knits. She has appeared on DIY's Knitty Gritty and the PBS series Shay Pendray's Needlework Studio. Her book, "Knitting Lingerie Style," was released in May 2007 by STC Publishing.
I live in Sacramento, California, and darlings; it gets hot here!
The Stephanie Tee is an elegant solution for steamy weather. Easy sleeves give the comfort of a tank and the coverage of a tee. Short-row shaping in the bust and sleeves assure a perfect fit for a range of sizes. The knitting is kept interesting by utilizing a challenging lace pattern balanced with an simple openwork ladder stitch.
Pretty glass leaves (sold on WhiteLiesDesigns.com) lend interest to the drawstring neckline.
The bamboo/nylon yarn blends easy care and non-shrinkage with comfortable knitting (find baby Boo on WhiteLiesDesigns.com).
