Pattern Description:

Mermaids Lagoon is a cardigan that is worked from the top down, seamlessly and flat. It features raglan shaping, cap sleeves and an A-line shape. The upper bodice has a "pearl" pattern with a "net" waist band and "fish scale lace" on the lower body. Button bands are picked up at each front edge and buttons are applied on a little more than half of the band, beginning at the neck edge.

It is a quick and easy little girl's cardigan that is a great introductory to new techniques, such as, lace, textured stitches, short rows and picking up stitches.

Imperial and metric measurements are provided


18 sts & 26 rows = 4" (10cm) in Stockinette Stitch on US 7 (4.5mm) needles, OR size needed to obtain gauge.
17 sts & 8 rows = 3.5" x 1.5" (9cm x 4cm) in Chart 3, Fish Scale Lace on US 7 (4.5mm) needles, OR size needed to obtain gauge.

  • C1 (Upper Body) - 80 (100, 110, 115, 125, 135, 145, 155yards
  • C2 (Waistband & Trim) - 70 (85, 90, 95, 105, 115, 125, 135yards
  • C3 (Lower Body) - 150 (190, 200, 220, 240, 260, 280, 300yards
  • US 7 (4.5mm) OR size needed to obtain gauge; circular or straight needles for body, in desired length
  • US 6 (4mm) OR one size smaller than size needed to obtain gauge, 12"-16" (30-50cm) circular or double pointed needles for sleeve cuffs
  • US 6 (4mm) OR one size smaller than size needed to obtain gauge, circular or straight needles for neck edge and front bands, in desired length

You Will Also Need:

  • 4 stitch markers to mark raglan shaping, plus optional markers to mark repeats
  • 4 (5, 5, 6, 6, 7, 7, 8 half inch (1.5cm) buttons

575 yards of Worsted weight
