Pattern Description:

Felting a vest can seem daunting, because it needs to fit. The Chalet Vest is worked in garter stitch throughout, making the felted gauge predictable. Button loops are worked after felting, letting you place them precisely where needed,

16 sts x 32 rows = 4" in garter st with larger ndls, before felting
22 sts x 44 rows = 4" in garter st with larger ndls, after felting

Sizing / Finished Measurements:

  • Length, after felting: 18 (19, 191/2, 201/4, 203/4)"
  • Bust with fronts overlapped after felting: 31 (341/2, 381/4, 413/4, 451/2)"


  • 6 (7, 7, 8, 9) skeins Deluxe Worsted wool
  • US Size 8 (5 mm) straight needles or size needed to obtain gauge
  • US Size 7 (4.5 mm) 32" circular needles

You Will Also Need:

  • Tapestry Needle
  • Stitch Holders
  • One 5/8" button (for hidden closure)
  • US Size G-6 (4mm) crochet hook
  • Two safety pins
  • smooth cotton (or other non-felting fiber) waste yarn
  • Two 1 3/4" toggle buttons

1500 yards of Worsted weight
