Hi. First off, I love this pattern! Now my question. I'm kinda busty and would prefer that the sweater fit my shoulders so that I look more tailored than casual. Do you have any comment on how I should select a size? Around the bust I measure 37. Following the Amy Herzog suggestion of measuring my upper torso I get 34. So in order to not be swallowed up I can't imagine I would knit anything larger than size 36. Your thoughts are most welcome. Thanks.
I feel I should specify that I like the way the sweater fits shoulder-wise in the picture and want something similar for myself rather than what I would get if I knit to fit my bust. Thanks.
Hello, Thyank you for your interest in the cardigan. I would recommend knitting the size that is closes to your crossback (shoulder to shoulder) measurement. The size 34" chest has a crossback measurement of 15" and the size 36" has a crossback measurement of 16". There is no ease in the crossback and I believe this will give you the tailored look that that you desire. I hope this helps. Happy knitting! :)
need to knit top-down instead of pieces
I'm inclined to add an invisible (preferably) zipper to the front, do you think i would have to increase the width of the fronts to do this?
Hi .. I really liked this pattern. However today is my first time at this site. Once i buy the pattern, what does it look like? Would it be possible to see couple of lines of how it comes across?
Hello, I did download the pattern. Thank you. Having never bought wool here, I was wondering what is the best place to buy it? Ideally I would like the exact same color also. Also, when buying what should I be asking for?
I just looked up the http://www.knitpicks.com/yarns/Swish_DK_Yarn__D5420168.html?buy_individually site. Here I can find the color. Each ball of wool is 123 yards it says am I reaching that right? Your pattern calls for 1600 yards .. which would be about 14 balls .. am I doing this right?
You list the yardage of yarn, but not the skeins or weight; doesn't it take some figuring to translate the yardage of yarn to how many skeins and weight one should buy? Pattern is beautiful.
Thank you Lynmeyer. The weight is listed as DK and the yardage is listed as 1600 yds. The number of skeins will depend on the brand of yarn you decide to use. :) I hope you enjoy the pattern.
Aside from the written pattern, do we get to see a video of this pattern?
Love this Cardi & the color you chose. I am a newbie but once I have more skills & practice I would love to make this. It looks roomy & comfy without being baggy or 'frumpy' lol.
Love this sweater. Before I purchase I have 2 questions. Would Caron Simply Soft be ok? and are the sleeves knitted flat then seamed or in the round with DPN's Thank you
Hello Cindyvick. Thank you for your interest in the pattern. The sleeves are knit flat and then seamed. I do not have experience knitting with Caron Simply soft. Unless you are sensitive to wool, I would recommend using wool only because it blocks well. You can always make a swatch using the Caron Simply soft to see if you like the results. Hope this helps.
Is this a pattern that would be suitable for beginners? Up to this point the only thing I have knitted is dishcloths.
Hello, Thanks for your interest in the pattern. The pattern requires knitting, purling, cabling, decreasing, and sewing seams. I hope you challenge yourself. It should not be too difficult.
Would it be possible to adopt the design for men? I think the neck opening should be smaller? Any thoughts?
Hi babasison. The sweater is designed to the Yarn Council standard measurements for women. I imagine if you knit the sweater in the round as a pullover and removed the waist shaping it would be possible. You would have to take measurements of the man you are knitting for. Hope that helps.
Sorry if this is a silly question, but are the sizes listed bust sizes?
Hello, That is a great question. The sizes listed are for the actual bust size. The finished garment will have a couple inches of positive ease. Hope this helps.
Okay, thanks for the clarification! :)
That's what I thought, but wanted to be sure-thanks for your response, and I love the pattern.
So glad you like it, Thank you
Was looking at the yarns on Knitpicks, and in their description of the pattern, it says the yarn called for is worsted/heavy worsted, which I suspect is a mistake since all the recommended yarns are DKs. Unless the pattern calls for double-stranding the DK yarn?
Hello DebVan, The yarn called for is Swish D.K. I will contact K.P. to make the correction to their site. Only one strand of D.K. is used. Hope this helps. :)
I have a question. I LOVE this design. I've bought the pattern and the yarn (cotlin from Knit Picks since I live in hot, hot Florida) is coming.I am a plus size gal and always go through the directions using a highlighter to mark the stitches I should be using for each step. I assumed it would be easy since I am making the largest size Amanda designed for. However, when I got to the Sleeve section, in the second paragraph, it says "and every 6" row 0 (0,0,0,0,7,19) times". I take it to mean the largest size should decrease 19 times. Since that is quite a bit more than the other numbers, I just need to check to see if that's a typo or if I truly need to decrease 19 times.Hope you are monitoring these comments Amanda or if anyone else might be making a large size and have come across this too. Thanks for any help.Denise
Hello Denise. Thanks so much for your purchase. This isn't a typo, the larges size has 19 increases, you should have 94 sts after working your increases. The other sizes also have several increases (As per the first half of the sleeve instructions) they are just worked at different intervals. Hope this helps. Any prob's please feel free to email me.Happy knitting! Amanda
