I know that creativity comes at a point of interface--between different cultures, subjects, disciplines, techniques, etc. So this piece (which intersects knitting and fabric) felt like an explosion of possibilities around the best that both of these could offer.
The knitting gets to do what it does best: fit the body. And the fabric get to do what it does best: provide yardage!
The fun is in your personal combination. Start by finding a drapey (probably knit), light-weight fabric, then go find a coordinating yarn, do a little knitting and a little sewing, combine the two, and wear with pride!
By the way, I have tried this garment on many many students, and as long as it is the right length (so please pay attention to those directions), it looks FABULOUS on everyone!
PS A metric version of this pattern is available upon request. Please email me after you have purchased the pattern.
22 stitches and 32 rows = 4" (over stockinette)
I have been knitting and designing for over 50 years.
My favourite thing to do is to draft and knit garments that are classic-with a-twist, that will fit, that I will wear proudly, that will be admired, and that will inspire others to learn how to knit!
And my next favourite thing to do is pass all I know about how to do this along to you!
