This was one of my earliest hat designs that has now been updated to give multiple sizes and styles for this great basic beret. The new version has options for either a slipped stitch band or a braided band, traditional beret or slouchy beret style, as well as choices about striping: none, a little, or lots!
I love doing this with Noro Silk Garden as you never know what it will look like until it's done. I've made scores of these fun hats and no two are alike - even using the same colorway!
The pattern has line-by-line instructions and there are also online video tutorials available for some of the techniques used.
If you're not sure about doing the stranded work, just do the basic pattern using a self-striping yarn and work your way up to the two-color versions; but, do give them a try. It's a great way to get your toe in the water with colorwork.

After 20 years of working in music and worship arts, I have had the joy of spending the last six years teaching and encouraging knitters, as well as designing knitwear.
I am hopelessly addicted to making beautiful, colorful things.
