Basic Skills Necessary:

  • Knitting in the Round, Basic fair Isle

Pattern Description:

I developed this design for two reasons.
Reason #1 I am a hat lover! I love making them for gifts and wearing them myself.
Reason #2 I make my living as a knitting teacher in the San Francisco Bay Area, where one almost always needs a hat. I wanted to design a pattern that fit the bill for my intermediate students, who are ready to take the leap and learn to knit in the round and start introducing colorwork into their practice.

Gauge:

Gauge:
4.5 sts= 1" in stockinette stitch on larger size needles

Sizing / Finished Measurements:

  • Adult size medium

Materials:

  • Size US 7 (4.5mm) and US9 (5.5mm) 16" circular needle, or size needed to obtain gauge 1 set double pointed needles same size as larger size circular needle

You Will Also Need:

  • locking stitch markers, tapestry needle, scissors

Suggested yarn:

175 yards of Worsted weight

Preferred Brand/Yarn:

Malabrigo Kettle Dyed Merino Worsted

Colorway:

#22 Sauterne and #118 Tortuga
