Pattern Description:

The Florrie Hat is named for my Grandmother and inspired by the era of the popular PBS series Downton Abbey. Cloche-style hats are so flattering and anyone can wear the style - may as well be both stylish and warm!

This hat is easy knitting and you will learn how to do a "make one" increase {usually abbreviated M1} . My instructions are non-traditional in that I use few, if any abbreviations. Each step is written out with stitch counts.

You'll also learn how easy it is to custom dye your own embellishments - in this case, a rose. Full instructions for knitting then dyeing the rose are given. No fancy stuff required - just things from your kitchen. Note: everything used in this dyeing tutorial is food-grade, therefore safe to re-use for food.

Next, you'll learn how to "felt" in a washing machine - easy and fun. Then, instructions are given step-by-step for making your hat look like it came from a millinery shop!

Gauge is not overly critical for this project - aim for about 15 stitches = 4". The felting will determine sizing {small, medium or large}.

I've always made things as long as I can remember. Both my Mom and Dad were"makers", so it just was what you did! The handcrafted item was always respected and expected in my family.

Mom taught me how to knit, which was a challenge, as she was left-handed and I'm right-handed!

Knitting is the one art and craft that I always return to through the years.

My other favorites are marbling, ...
