Pattern Description:

Once again, I wanted a quick, simple scarf with lots of texture that I could knit when I wanted to procrastinate. I was inspired to design this scarf after noticing (and participating) in the color blocking fashion trend this past summer. I wondered how I could extend my color blocking fun into winter accessories.

At the same time, I'd been knitting a few more chunky scarves using various mistake rib stitches, and I thought that I could combine a chunky mistake rib stitch with colored garter and stockinette bands to create my own color block scarf. As the design came into being, I realized that the scarf could also be easily converted to a cowl.

Worked in bulky or superbulky yarn with just the basic knit and purl stitches, this scarf or cowl will be a quick project for anyone looking for a simple but impressive quick gift this holiday season. The pattern is also easily worked in one color yarn for an even simpler, textured scarf. And the name? "Textured Block Play" seemed too long, so I went with BlockTure. Hehehe...

My supervisor at the college library where I worked gave me a pair of US #8 needles, a ball of yarn, and an hour long knitting lesson as my graduation present. After graduation I spent one year travelling to five countries where I studied responses to domestic violence. I used all the airport wait times and layovers to practice my newly acquired knitting skill (while watching Bollywood movies to ...
