Inspired by the sea that surrounds my grandparents native Acadia, this hat uses a graceful "Seaweed stitch" in the body that is knit/purl stitches only, with an embellishment that could remind one of a sea creature or coral. The hat is k nit from the bottom up in the round, the brim is a simple twisted K1P1 rib, and the embellishment uses the "Loop" stitch. Instructions are written, in three sizes, with a photo tutorial for the embellishment.
This hat is lightweight for spring/summer months, yet the elasticized brim hugs the head for comfort. This would make a GREAT chemo cap!
18-20sts and 26-28 rows/4" in Seaweed stitch pattern using size 6 needles. Precise gauge is not critical due to the elasticity in the brim.
I am one of 2 sisters who share a love of knitting, dark chocolate and fine wine, not necessarily in that order, and often all at the same time! My knitwear name is Bellsistersusan (formerly Bellsisterdong) - born out of a hilarious mishap at Stitches West one year. You can read all about it on Ravelry.com under the profile of Bellsistersusan.
