Basic Skills Necessary:

  • Knit, purl, decreases
  • Stranded knitting
  • Directions included for thumb gusset increases, 2-color long-tail cast on, and Latvian Scallop cuff.
  • Knitting in the round.

Pattern Description:

Ten Below uses a traditional Latvian scalloped cuff, gusset thumb, with large snowflake motif on front and minor snowflake motifs on the palm of the hand.

Right-hand and Left-hand mittens are unique and have their own color chart. Written and charted instructions are included for the scalloped cuff.

All my mitten patterns include other knitting tips in regard to yarn dominance, floats, decreases, and increases.

9 stitches & 10 rows per inch lightly blocked
260 - 315 yards (divided)

Sizing / Finished Measurements:

  • Women's medium; 68 sts per round.
  • 95 rows cuff to tip. Thumb gusset begins on row 28 and ends after row 41.


  • Needle, US 0 (2.0mm) 32" cable for Magic Loop or equivalent dpn's. Size to obtain gauge.
  • Needle, US 1 (2.25mm) 32" cable for Magic Loop or equivalent dpn's. Size to obtain gauge
  • Darning needle, 12" waste yarn, 2 stitch markers.
  • Yarn: fingering weight. 150 yds of motif color (shown in natural). 150 yds main background color (shown in blue & gray variegated). 45 yds of cuff background color (shown in dark gray).

Preferred Brand/Yarn:

Wollmeise Twin or Pure, Cephalopod Skinny Bugga, any comparable fingering
