(6) Name: 'Knitting : Tanta

Basic Skills Necessary:

  • knit
  • yarn over
  • knit 2 together
  • knit into the front and back of a stitch

Pattern Description:

Tanta is a wide, shallow garter stitch based shawl, with lace edges that are knit as you go. It is knit from tip to tip, making it easy to adapt to different gauges. You can make this with any amount of yarn, simply work the increase chart until you have used half your yarn, then move on to the decrease chart.
Pattern includes both charts and written directions.

This pattern is intended to be opened using Adobe Reader v. 6 or later. Mac users please note that this file may not open properly with Preview. Please make sure you use Adobe Reader.


20 stitches and 32 rows = 4" (10cm) in garter stitch, after blocking.

Sizing / Finished Measurements:

  • 15" (38cm) deep, 72" (183cm) wide


  • 460 yards sock yarn
  • US size 6 (4mm) needles
