Basic Skills Necessary:

  • ability to understand lace: k2tog, ssk, yo, k3tog
  • knitting in the round (or flat if want the shawl-like version)

Pattern Description:

I was tasked with developing a one-skein pattern for the goodie bags at an upcoming knitting workshop. Since the workshop will be mid-April, I wanted to make something fun, Spring/Summer-ish and unique. And here's what I designed: Sunburst Spectacular!

Just in time for Summer evenings ... a lovely, lacy poncho/shawl that shows the multi-colors to perfection! Sample is knit using one skein of Tofutsies, but any sock-weight yarn would work equally well - and the colorways available in the hand-dyes are amazing! The directions are both charted and row-by-row with notes for changing the design from in-the-round to a flat, shawl-style are included.

Gauge:

it is not critical to get gauge for this design but you want to come close to obtain the drape/flow that I obtained:

6sts x 8 rnds = 1" stockinette (blocked)

Sizing / Finished Measurements:

  • one size fits all
  • neck - 9" wide by 3" deep length - 17" from neck to hem-point hem circumference - approx 128"

Materials:

  • approx 450 yards of smooth fingering-weight yarn (sample used one skein of Tofutsies - a blend of superwash wool, cotton, soysilk and chitin)
  • US #8 circs -- 16" and 32"
  • 12 stitch markers - one a different color from the rest to mark beg of rnd
  • tapestry needle to tuck in ends

You Will Also Need:

  • blocking board and t-pins/blocking wires to ensure stitch definition
