Hat

Skill Level:

small skill level requirement Beginner

Basic Skills Necessary:

  • knit
  • purl
  • decrease

Pattern Description:

Mix and match time! 2 yarn weight options x 2 decrease options (swirl or cross) = four wonderfully simple, wearable hats, with barely a purl (I promise!) These slightly slouchy, not-quite-basic hats have shot to the top of my "hats I actually wear" pile- the worsted is great for chilly days and the DK, with it's touch of silk, is light enough for spring or fall (or, if you're me, summer. Hats year round! Woo!)

Gauge:

Dk Version: 24 st and 36 rows in 4 inches in stockinette on size 5 needles; 22 st and 28 rows in 4 inches in stockinette on size 8 needles
Worsted Version: 20 st and 35 rows in 4 inches in stockinette on size 6 needles; 18 st and 28 rows in 4 inches in stockinette on size 9 needles.

Sizing / Finished Measurements:

  • At listed gauge, approximately 22" diameter (but very stretchy)

Materials:

  • 100g Worsted or DK yarn (shown in Malabrigo Worsted, Simply Taupe and Malabrigo Silky Merino, Manzanilla Olive.)
  • For worsted: US size 6 circular needle
  • For worsted: US size 9 circular needle
  • For worsted: US size 9 dpns (or other needle for small circumference)
  • For DK: US size 5 circular needle
  • For DK: US size 8 circular needle
  • For DK: US size 8 dpns (or other needle for small circumference)

You Will Also Need:

  • stitch marker

And I like you too, sugar cheeks. I can?t say I care for bio-writing, though. Boring stuff: I graduated with a degree in psychology (still in mint condition!) from Reed College, after dinking around at the Pacific Northwest ...
