Basic Skills Necessary:

  • Casting on
  • Knitting in the round
  • Changing color
  • Binding off

Pattern Description:

Knitting this easy cowl is a great way to use up extra yarn. Use any bulky or chunky yarn, and holding worsted weight doubled will work too.
A color chart is provided to achieve the irregular stripes in the sample, but go ahead and make up your own!


11 sts and 19 rows = 4" square in Stockinette stitch.
It isn't necessary to achieve perfect perfect gauge for this cowl, just make sure you love the feel of the fabric you're knitting.

Sizing / Finished Measurements:

  • One size: 25" circumference and 11" depth


  • Bulky or super bulky yarn in four colors; approx 75 yds of color A, 40 yds each of colors B and C, and 35 yds of color D
  • 16" circular needle in size US 13 [9mm]

  • Stitch marker
  • Needle for weaving in ends
