Basic Skills Necessary:

  • Techniques Used: provisional CO, knit/purl, cables, dropped stitches, knitting in the round, decreasing, grafting or optional 3needle bind off.
  • Experience Level: Intermediate. Photo tutorial included for grafting cables; cabled brim instructions are both charted and written.

Pattern Description:

A chic little hat with sideways-cabled brim, and sleek reverse stockinette crown. Dropped stitches between cables make the brim extra soft and stretchy. Part of the Very Chic series.


Gauge: 18 st and 28 rows/4" in reverse stockinette stitch; one 16 row cable repeat = 2.5."

Sizing / Finished Measurements:

  • Size: S/M (M/L); 20 (22.5)" brim circumference, to fit 20-21.5 (22-23.5)" head.


  • Yarn: Malabrigo Yarn Merino Worsted (100% merino wool, 210 yards); 1 skein. Size S/M shown in Apple Green; size M/L shown in Hollyhock.

You Will Also Need:

  • Other Materials: US 8 16" circular needle/DPNs or 32" circular needle if using Magic Loop, or size to match gauge. Waste yarn for provisional CO. Stitch markers (2). Cable needle. Yarn needle. 4 non-slippery US 8 dpns, preferably two different colors, for grafting.
