Pattern Description:

This knitting pattern PDF includes two designs by Bonnie Sennott: the Shallows Cowl/Scarf and the Shallows Mitts.

ABOUT THE MITTS
The Shallows mitts are knit flat and seamed. Techniques required include stockinette stitch, garter stitch, yarnovers, ssk, k2tog, placing beads, and seaming. The stitch pattern is given in written form and in a chart.

Blocked dimensions are 7 inches/17.5 cm wide by 7.25 inches/18 cm long (before seaming, measured at widest point)

You'll need about 135 yards of fingering weight yarn, US2 and US4 knitting needles, and 16 #6 seed beads. The pattern includes instructions for placing beads. However, the beads may be omitted: knit the stitch instead of placing a bead on it.

ABOUT THE COWL/SCARF
For the cowl or scarf, you'll need 350 yards of fingering weight yarn and US4 needles. You'll also need #6 seed beads: 96 (for the cowl) or 102 (for the scarf). Both versions are worked flat from one end to the other; the cowl is grafted.

Blocked Dimensions
Cowl: 7 inches/18 cm wide by 52 inches/132 cm long
Scarf: 7 inches/18 cm wide by 54 inches/137 cm long

Techniques: stockinette stitch, garter stitch, yarnovers, ssk, k2tog, placing beads, and (for the cowl version) a provisional cast-on and grafting.

The stitch pattern is given in written form and in a chart.

The pattern includes instructions for placing beads and links to online tutorials for grafting. If you prefer, you can omit the beads; in that case, knit the stitch instead of placing a bead on it.

Gauge:

For the mitts: 30 sts/42 rows = 4"/10 cm in stockinette stitch on smaller needle after blocking.

For the cowl/scarf: 24 sts/32 rows = 4"/10 cm in stockinette stitch after blocking
