Pattern Description:

Shadow knitting or Illusion knitting is a simple technique that combines knit and purl stitches to create ridges that allow shapes to appear and disappear as the viewer's angles change.

"Shadow Play" is a simple pattern that will introduce you to the technique.
This hat is made in 3 wedges, each of which uses a simple shadow-knitting technique to create the illusion of 6 wedges.

A cute pom-pom at the top finishes off the look!

Gauge:

Child's hat: 5 stitches per inch. Adult hats: 4.5 stitches per inch.

Sizing / Finished Measurements:

  • Child; Adult Small/Medium; Adult Large/Extra Large

Materials:

  • Straight or circular Size 8 (5 mm) needle, or size required to give gauge. 24" circular needles are recommended for doing 3-needle bind-off to finish hat.

You Will Also Need:

  • Tapestry needle, stitch markers.

Suggested yarn:

250 yards of Worsted weight

Preferred Brand/Yarn:

You need 125 yards each of any light and dark yarn.
