Basic Skills Necessary:

  • Techniques Used: knit/purl, decreasing, short rows, bobbles; lace edging is both written and charted.
  • Experience Level: Intermediate or Adventurous Beginner.

Pattern Description:

Long crescent-shaped stole with dome & minaret edging, reminiscent of the Selimiye Mosque in Edirne, Turkey. This wrap is knit from the bottom up, then given gentle shaping with short rows. Part of the Sailing To Byzantium Collection, designs inspired by the art and architecture of ancient Constantinople.

Gauge:

Gauge: 14 st x 30 rows/4" in stockinette stitch; one repeat is approximately 2.5", after blocking. Gauge is not critical for this project, however a different gauge may result in a smaller or larger finished shawl, and different yardage requirements.

Sizing / Finished Measurements:

  • Size: 58" length x 17" depth, after blocking.

Materials:

  • Yarn: Malabrigo Silky Merino (51% silk, 49% merino wool; 150 yards); 3 skeins, Topaz.

You Will Also Need:

  • Other Materials: US 7 40" circular needle. Yarn needle.
