(6) Name: 'Knitting : Seegras

Basic Skills Necessary:

Pattern Description:

Seegras is a cowl that drapes around the neck very naturally and knits up quickly. The fringed border resembles the form of seaweed, that is what Seegras means in my native language, German.

The main part is knit in rows. The stitches for the border are then picked up along the longer edge and the border is knit in rows perpendicular to the rows of the main part. Finally the cast-on edge is sewn together with the bind-off edge. You may add a twist when sewing the edges together.


14 sts and 24 rows = 10 cm (4)
- garter st (knit all rows)
- US#10/6 mm

Sizing / Finished Measurements:

  • Length of main part (before sewing): 142.5 cm (56)
  • Width of main part (before sewing): 20-25 cm (7.75-9.75)


  • US#10/6 mm circular needle, 40 cm (16) or 2 straight needles [for main part]
  • US#10/6 mm circular needle, 80-150 cm (32-60) [for edging]

You Will Also Need:

  • 17 stitch markers [to mark pattern repeats]
  • tapestry needle [to weave in any loose ends and to sew together cast-on edge and bind-off edge]

Suggested yarn:

327 yards of Chunky weight
