Pattern Description:
A thick and warm cowl that can be adjusted to any size. The stitch pattern is reminiscent of the distinct pinnate leaves of the Rowan tree. Rowan trees display the most vibrant autumn colours, and the name Rowan is thought to come from the proto-Germanic word 'raudnian', which means "getting red". What better name for a cowl that will keep you warm on those chilly autumn days!
Gauge:
16 sts , 21 rows = 10x10 cm / 4x4" in stocking stitch
Sizing / Finished Measurements:
- Women's Medium - Finished size 16.5 x 59 cm / 6 1/2 x 23 1/4"
Materials:
- 80g (140 m / 155 yards) worsted or aran weight yarn
- 5mm / US 8 needles, or size to obtain tension
You Will Also Need:
- 5 buttons of about 2cm / 3/4" diameter
Suggested yarn:
140 meters of Worsted weight

Apart from the very few designs in which the two gloves/mittens are knitted exactly identical, my patterns always include instructions for both the right and the left hand glove/mitten - no struggle over creating a mirror image of the first glove! All the thinking has been done for you!
