(6) Name: 'Knitting : Rhodes

Basic Skills Necessary:

  • Provisional cast on
  • Kitchener stitch

Pattern Description:

Rhodes is a loop scarf that is knit with a reversible knit and purl stitch pattern. This textured scarf adds a touch of elegance to a plain jacket and is a versatile transitional piece that can be worn doubled up as a cowl in cool weather or as a long loop on a warmer day.

The cowl is knit flat starting with a provisional cast on. The ends are grafted together to form a continuous loop. The cowl shown used 2.5 skeins of Madelinetosh Alpaca Sport (available from madelinetosh.com). To substitute, you will need approximately 600yd/550m of sportweight yarn.


28 stitches and 35 rows per 4" in stockinette stitch

Sizing / Finished Measurements:

  • 59"(150cm) circumference x 9" (23cm) wide


  • Madelinetosh Alpaca Sport , 50% Superwash Merino Wool, 50% Baby Alpaca, 240 yards (219 metres) per 100g ball (3 skeins) or other sport weight yarn
  • US Size 3 (3.25 mm) or size required to obtain gauge (straight or circular)

  • Waste yarn for provisional cast on
