Pattern Description:

Red Velvet is uses heart and scroll motifs and has two options for the cuff, with or without a ruffle. Photo shows option "with" ruffle. Written directions and charts for colorwork for both options. Right and left-hand mittens are identical. Directions for the ruffle are written and charted.

The "no ruffle" option uses a short 2 x 2 rib at the cuff.

Pattern works well with variegated yarns for either the background OR motif.

All my mitten patterns include other knitting tips in regard to yarn dominance, floats, decreases, and increases.

Gauge:

9 stitches and 11 rows per inch.

Sizing / Finished Measurements:

Women's medium; 68 sts per round.
No ruffle option: 93 rows cuff to tip. Thumb gusset begins on row 25 and ends after row 40.
Ruffle option: 95 rows cuff to tip. Thumb gusset begins on row 27 and ends after row 42.

Materials:

Needle US 0 (2.0mm) 32" cable for Magic Loop or equivalent dpn's. Size to obtain gauge.
Darning needle, 12" waste yarn, 2 stitch markers.
Yarn: fingering weight. 170 yds for EACH; background color and motif color.
