Red Hat Lady Purse

from Cultured Purl
(6) Name: 'Knitting : Red Hat Lady Purse
Red Hat Lady Purse
Red Hat Lady Purse

Basic Skills Necessary:

  • Knit and purl, increase and decrease, knit in the round, pick up stitches, felt the item. (felting instructions are included.)

Pattern Description:

After seeing groups of Red Hat Ladies, I thought a felted purse and hat set would appeal to lots of them. This purse coordinates with my Red Hat Lady Hat pattern, also available here. If you make the hat and purse, you need only a total of 84 yards of the metallic trim yarn. You do not need to buy two balls.
The purse starts with making the bottom. Then pick up stitches around the bottom and work the body in the round. The metallic trim yarn is knitted in before felting the purse.
This hat and purse set would work as well in other colors. You don't have to be a Red Hat Lady to want a felted hat and purse !
Felting instructions are included in the pattern. NOTE: Do not use super wash wool for felting.

14 stitches/ 4 inches and 18 rows/ 4 inches in stockinette stitch, before felting, with two strands of yarn.

  • Worsted weight wool, 440 yards (396 meters); metallic trim yarn, 84 yards (77 meters), Size 10 1/2 (6.5 mm) double pointed needles, size 10 1/2 (6.5 mm) 16 inch circular needles.

You Will Also Need:

  • Stitch markers, decorative shank button.
