Pattern Description:

I designed and hand knit this simple, cozy, versatile toque for romping around in the cold weather. Anyone can wear it, and it can be worn with anything! It can be worn slouchy at the back or folded down for double thickness over your ears. And the huge pompom adds a fun and jaunty touch to the top!

The PDF comes with the knitting pattern for the hat, as well as hand-illustrated instructions and a printable template for the pompom.


3 1/2 sts= 1" and 4 1/2 rows= 1" in stockinette using 7mm needles

Sizing / Finished Measurements:

  • 13" around when resting and stretches up to 24"
  • 11" tall
  • 4" pompom (diameter)


  • One 6mm circular needle 17" long max. (or four 6mm dp needles)
  • One 7mm circular needle 17" long max. (or four 7mm dp needles)
  • Four 7mm double pointed (dp) needles
  • One piece 8 1/2 x 11" cardstock (for pompom template)

Suggested yarn:

120 yards of Chunky weight
