from Year 13 Designs
(6) Name: 'Knitting : Planetary

Basic Skills Necessary:

  • knit
  • purl
  • some experience with cables and duplicate stitch are helpful, but you can learn as you go

Pattern Description:

A pattern with a life of its own!

Th is close-fitting beanie was inspired by a work-in-progress collection of space-based patterns (hubby is an astronomy nerd), but as I purled up the samples of this hat, I began to see all my geekery shine: not just planets, but little Hobbit holes, Star Trek rank insignia, Mac dots, Angry Chickens, my university colours.... Oh, the list goes on.

Don't be afraid of Planetary's bright lights of colour. They are deceptively simple to decode. Plus, once you've learned the trick, you'll be able to incorporate crazy circles into all kinds of knitted landscapes.
