Basic Skills Necessary:

  • increases and decreases

Pattern Description:

Do you know someone having a baby during the cold months? These adorable hats are doubly warm and use a stockinette stitch throughout.

Instructions are given for a Turkish Cast-on used to start the ears and the earflaps. Hobby Lobby's "I Love This Yarn" 100% acrylic medium weight (#4) was used for the two little hats.

This pattern is the same as the "Newborn Animal Earflap Hats" but you can see how it will fit an actual newborn!


Size 10 in stockinette st, double-stranded: 3 sts and 4.75 rows = 1 inch

Sizing / Finished Measurements:

  • Circumference 13.5 inches
  • Height 5.5 inches


  • US Size 8 double pointed needles
  • US Size 10 16-inch circular needle and DPNs
  • 1 skein worsted weight yarn - light pink for the piggy or approx. 125 yds
  • 1 skein worsted weight yarn - ivory for the lamby or approx. 125 yds
  • 25 yds of worsted weight yarn - dark pink for ears and nose

You Will Also Need:

  • Crochet hook - any size
  • felt - white & black for eyes and pig's nose
  • fiberfill for lamb's nose
  • blunt needle
  • sewing thread and needle (white & black thread)
