Pattern Description:

About the name:
Penelope \p(e)-nelo-pe, pen(e)-lope\ as a girl's name is pronounced pen-NELL-a-pee. It is of Greek origin, and the meaning of Penelope is "weaver". From "pene". Mythology: Penelope, wife of Odysseus, fended off suitors by weaving during the day and unraveling at night a tapestry she said had to be completed before she would wed another husband. The name has come to signify a loyal, capable, and clever woman.

You wont need to weave all day to make this chunky 'big needles' project.
Fast and easy beginner pattern or quick gift item. Easily worked pattern but plenty of textural interest (looks great using variegated yarn too) Worked in the round, no seams, with knits and purls only. Very versatile and extra stretchy - pull it long or wide for different looks, wear as a hood, snood, cowl or shoulderette wrap.

Materials:
158 - 170 yards (150 -155 m) super bulky yarn - my sample used 3 balls Schulana 'Cortina' in pink to about 6 ft left over
US sz 19 (15 mm) circular needles 16 - 24" (40 - 50 cm) long
Row counter (optional - you should be able to easily tell where you are -only 4 rows in rep)
1 end of round marker (EOR M)
Darning needle

Gauge/Measurements:
Gauge is not critical to piece but roughly 7.5 stitches and 12.5 rows = 4" (10cm) square in stockinette
End measurement is roughly (pieces has a lot of stretch) when flat and totally relaxed it is 30" (76 cm) around by 14" (36 cm) tall when pulled tall it will stay at 20" (51 cm), and can be pulled wide (over shoulders) to about 45" (115 cm)

Gauge:

roughly 7.5 stitches by 12.5 rows = 4" square in stockinette for yarn selection but GAUGE IS NOT CRITICAL

Sizing / Finished Measurements:

  • piece has a lot of stretch but relaxed aprox. 14" by 30" around will strech to 20" by 45"
