Basic Skills Necessary:

  • Stranded colorwork
  • Intarsia colorwork

Pattern Description:

I was inspired by the memory of my childhood days spent searching for peacock feathers at my parent's friend's house on the Maryland eastern shore.

This pattern includes instructions for making both the cowl and the mitts.


20 stitches = 4" (10 cm), 26 rows= 4" (10
cm) in stockinette stitch

Sizing / Finished Measurements:

  • Sample Finished Size: Cowl: 21" (53 cm) circumference, 9" (22.5 cm) wide unstretched Mitts: fits up to 9" (22.5 cm) around palm


  • Yarn: worsted weight. Sample knit in: Knit Picks Swish [100% Superwash Merino; 220 yards/100g], MC: 1 skein Pearlescent Tonal, CC: 1 skein Kindling Tonal
  • Needles: US Size 7-8 (4.5-5mm) straights, and dpns.

You Will Also Need:

  • Tapestry needle, waste yarn, stitch marker
