Basic Skills Necessary:

  • knit, purl, slip stitches, yo, knitting in the round, decreasing, using double pointed needles

Pattern Description:

The lace pattern in this tam resembles small candle lit lanterns, floating away, carrying your wish.

Knit in a worsted/Aran weight, this hat works up quickly, while the alternating panels of lace and stockinette stitch make it a wonderful piece to transition from seasons.

Pattern includes one size, with notes to adapt sizing, but fits both child and adult.

Intended to be worn blocked into a beret or tam style, but also looks great pulled down over the ears like a beanie.


4 stitches and 7 rows = 1 inch in stockinette in the round

Sizing / Finished Measurements:

  • one size to fit 19-23" head circumference


  • 125-150 yards of worsted/aran weight yarn
  • US 7(4.5mm) & US 9(5.5mm) circular needles, 16" length

You Will Also Need:

  • stitch markers
  • tapestry needle
  • iron/steamer for blocking
