Pattern Description:

I love modular knitting. It's a great way to use handpainted yarn, and because you're making lots of small units that build on each other, it really encourages you to keep knitting and not put it down because you can see the progress. ("Just let me finish this square!") I hope you enjoy this fun garter stitch hat as much as I do.

You'll start by making a series of triangles, then a series of squares, then knit garter stitch in the round to the desired length. No sewing is required, though you will crochet two short edges together.

Gauge:

23 sts/50 rows = 4" in garter st

Sizing / Finished Measurements:

  • Baby, toddler, child, adult small, adult medium, adult large
  • Circumference: 14, 16, 18, 20, 22, 24 inches

Materials:

  • sport weight yarn, approx. 110-335 yards, depending on size
  • 1 set US5/3.75mm straight knitting needles
  • 1 set US5/3.75mm double pointed needles for smaller sizes OR 1 US5/3.75mm circular needle (16 inch length) for larger sizes
  • crochet hook, US size F/3.75mm

  • 1 stitch marker
  • tapestry needle

335 yards of Sport weight
