The Loralei is a lovely little hat with a laced-rib brim, cabled leaves and vines, bobbled flower centers, and multi-colored petals. It's great first cable/bobble project if you've never tried them before, and if you're an old pro at it, you can knit this in a few hours!
- Use the long-tail cast on method to ensure that the brim is stretchy. I learned it specifically for this project and now I won't use anything else! Here's a video if you need to learn how: http://www.knittinghelp.com/video/play/long-tail-cast-on
- The yarn used is softer and more pliable than typical worsted, so if you use a stiff worsted, the gauge may be important.
- Less than one skein of each color is used.
- The pattern includes both written and chart forms.
8.5 stitches and 13 rows = 2 inches in Purl in the round in pattern
150 yards of Worsted weight
I taught myself to knit in 2005 and began designing in 2010. I love thinking up a shape or wacky concept and then figuring out how to make it into a functional, beautiful, three-dimensional object!
