Basic Skills Necessary:

  • knit and purl

Pattern Description:

VERY EASY! A great beginner project worked in the round on circular needles, in stocking stitch and reverse stocking stitch. Instructions are for 4 weights of yarn. These scarves are all worn wrapped twice around the neck (see additional photos). Bulky (top) and worsted (below) for fall and winter, that may also be worn as a cozy cowl.

Sock weight glitter with sequins and beads for a night out, and sock or lace weight cotton or linen for sultry summer days (see at left).

Make one for each season and outfit! This is essentially a huge-diameter tube, knit at a relaxed tension and precisely calculated to be the perfect length when worn doubled. Gives a Moebius impression without actually being one. Brilliantly simple.

Gauge is very loose.

In Stockinette stitch:

Bulky: 2 sts = 1" (2.5cm)
Worsted: 3 sts = 1" (2.5cm)
Sock: 4 sts = 1" (2.5cm)
Lace: 4.5 sts = 1" (2.5cm)

Sizing / Finished Measurements:

  • Loop is 25" (63.5) long and worn twice around the neck.

  • For bulky yarn, 330 yards (300m) and size 15 (10mm) circular needles
  • For worsted yarn, 370 yards (340m) and size 11 (8mm) circular needles
  • For sock yarn, 330 yards (300m) [or 165 yards (150m) each for 2 colors] and size 7 (4.5mm) circular needles
  • For lace yarn, 220 yards (200m) and size 5 (3.75mm) circular needles

You Will Also Need:

  • Tapestry needle for finishing

I can't remember when I couldn't knit, crochet or sew. I am inspired by yarn I find, trends I see on the street, window shopping in Manhattan and suggestions from fellow knitters and crocheters. My goal is to create stylish patterns that are easy to wear, and to find the simplest way to construct them.
