Basic Skills Necessary:

  • knit with at least two colors in one round
  • knit and purl

Pattern Description:

Cute lions are all around this fun lion beanie.
They are surrounded by a lion paw peerie (border pattern) and the lion tail ending gives this hat its special "touch".

Note: the lion has some rows with three colors in them. So it's not a real Fair Isle pattern.

But it is fun anyway!

For bigger sizes use bigger needle size or 5-ply yarn or both.


Knitting gauge in stranded pattern: 1 x 1 inch: 7 stitches and 8 rows (2 x 2 cm: 5 stitches and 6

Sizing / Finished Measurements:

  • This beanie fits size S and M. (about 52 - 55 cm head circumreference)


  • 30 g of 4-ply sock yarn (or similar yarn) in black
  • 20 g in of 4-ply sock yarn in white
  • 35 g of 4-ply sock yarn in ochre (or yellow)
  • 20 g of 4-ply sock yarn in blue

You Will Also Need:

  • Circular needle 40 cm 3.00 mm
  • For bigger sizes: Circular needle 40 cm 3.5 mm
  • 5 double pointed needles size 3.00 mm for the top of the head
  • tapestry needle to weave in the ends

Suggested yarn:

230 yards of Fingering weight

Preferred Brand/Yarn:

Buttinette sckli, Opal uni solid 4-ply sock yarn


yellow or ochre, blue, black, white or off-white
