Women, Girls, Petite

Skill Level:

intermediate skill level requirement Advanced

Basic Skills Necessary:

  • Knit lace on double pointed needles
  • Work crochet crab stitch.
  • For hat with brim, knit grafting required.

Pattern Description:

Inspired by one of Dorothy Reade's lace mesh patterns (Nr. 15). A modified version is used on the bands of all of the variations of the hat.

Gauge is tricky because the hat is a circular knit that increases in size: By the time you take the gauge, you could have knitted the entire hat. Using Size 1, 2 or 3 needles will result in either a toque (skull cap) or beret!
;-) But the circumeference for small should be 21.5" and for medium to large 23".

  • 80 to 95 yards lace weight yarn (twice amount if used doubled)
  • Knitting needles, U.S. Sizes 1 and 2
  • Crochet hook Size E

You Will Also Need:

  • Beads, beads, beads!
