Basic Skills Necessary:

  • k2tog, ssk, centered decrease
  • knit in the round
  • pick up and knit from slipped stitch edge

Pattern Description:

The Kitsune Cowl is named for the foxes of Japanese folklore. These foxes grow more tails as they get older and wiser, with an apparent maximum of nine tails.

The cowl is knit top down, starting with a solid garter stitch border, which breaks into nine bias garter stitch stripes, in three colors, each of which ends in a lacy fox tail.

Gauge:

30sts x 60 rows = 4x4" in garter stitch
30sts x 40 rows = 4x4" in stockinette stitch

Sizing / Finished Measurements:

  • 18" around x 8" tall, plus 5" tails

Materials:

  • US3/3.25mm needles, 16-20" circulars (or size to get gauge)

You Will Also Need:

  • 3 locking stitch markers or safety pins (optional)
  • stitch holder or waste yarn
  • tapestry needle or crochet hook for weaving in ends

600 yards of Fingering weight
