  • Experience Level: Intermediate; contains unusual lace stitches. This pattern is both written and charted.

Pattern Description:

Sideways knit garter shawlette, with knit-in border reminiscent of Turkish Iznik ceramic tile motifs. Part of the Sailing To Byzantium Collection, patterns inspired by the art and architecture of ancient Constantinople.


Gauge: 24 st x 32 rows/4" in garter stitch; after blocking.
Gauge is not critical for this project, however a different gauge may result in a smaller or larger finished shawlette, and different yardage requirements.

Sizing / Finished Measurements:

  • Size: 42" length x 17" depth, after blocking.


  • Yarn: Malabrigo Yarn Sock (100% superwash merino wool, 440 yards); 1 skein Playa.

You Will Also Need:

  • Other Materials: US 6 24" circular needle. Stitch markers (2). Yarn needle.
