Pattern Description:

This sweet hat combines two of my favorite thingshearts and ornate iron scrollwork. As I am a knitter, not a smith, I have used my needles to forge yarn into a hat.

Interesting knitting begins right away with a two-color cabled cast-on and corrugated ribbing. Following a plain round of knitting, the Norwegian-inspired hearts are wrought to life with stranded colorwork. After a two-color purl turning round, you're on to the crown decreaseseither in the contrasting color or in the main color.

Gauge:

24 stitches and 24 rows = 4 inches in Stranded stockinette stitch (blocked)

Sizing / Finished Measurements:

  • Child [Adult] - One size to fit an average child's [woman's] head (circumference: 17 [19.5] inches, 43 [50] cm; stretches to 20 [23] inches; 51 [58] cm)

Materials:

  • Size US 7 (4.5 mm) circular knitting needle

You Will Also Need:

  • Stitch markers (1 in contrasting color for beginning of round)
  • Yarn needle

Suggested yarn:

220 yards of Worsted weight
