Basic Skills Necessary:

  • yarn over

Pattern Description:

Hallam is a simple to knit scarf with lots of personality. Worked from side to side, the seed stitch body is shaped with short rows for a gentle curve that wraps around your neck. Beginner-friendly lace edges one side. Easy to adjust for a variety of yarns and gauges. Shown in Long.

Short (Medium, Long)
60 (75, 90)" / 153 (190, 229)cm from end to end 6.5" / 16.5cm wide at center

Worsted or aran weight yarn
300 (350, 400) yds / 275 (330, 365)m

Needles and Notions
US 9 / 5.5mm circular needles, 32" / 80cm or longer
Shown in Alisha Goes Around Panoply (of Peacocks) Worsted (80% fine superwash merino wool, 10% cashmere, 10% nylon; 200 yds / 183m per 4 oz / 115g skein), 2 skeins.
Worsted weight yarn is knit quite loosely for a drapey fabric. Please note that superwash wools, alpaca and silk especially will stretch and relax quite a bit when soaked.


12 sts and 30 rows = 4" square in Seed stitch, after blocking

Sizing / Finished Measurements:

  • 60 (75, 90)" long, 6.5" wide at center


  • US 9 / 5.5mm circular needles, 32" or longer
