Pattern Description:

Designed by Deborah Newton

Newton's ski-friendly accessories (1986) include gloves which feature an elaborate center cable that travels from cuffs to finger tips and a toque knit in three panels in the round with an I-cord bottom band and pompom-tipped twisted cord strings.


24 sts and 32 rows to 4"/10cm over St st using size 5 (3.75mm) needles and Ambrosia.
20 sts and 24 rows to 4"/10cm over St st using size 7 (4.5mm) needles and Camelino.

Sizing / Finished Measurements:

  • One size.
  • Finished circumference of gloves at cuff edge 14"/35.5cm
  • Finished hat circumference at lower edge approx 21"/53cm
  • Finished hat height 7 1/2"/19cm


  • GLOVES: 4 1 3/4oz/50g balls (each approx 137yd/125m) of Knit One, Crochet Too, Inc Ambrosia (baby alpaca, silk, cashmere) in #510 pale moss
  • GLOVES: One set (4) each sizes 4 and 5 (3.5 and 3.75mm) double pointed needles (dpn) OR SIZE TO OBTAIN GAUGE
  • GLOVES: Cable needle (cn) and stitch markers
  • HAT: Size 7 (4.5 mm) circular needle 16"/40cm length
  • HAT: One pair and one set (5) dpn size 7 (4.5 mm) needles OR SIZE TO OBTAIN GAUGE
  • HAT: 4 1 3/4oz/50g balls (each approx 109yd/100m), Camelino (merino/camel) in #510 pale moss
