Basic Skills Necessary:

  • increasing, decreasing, casting on at end of row

Pattern Description:

Besides knitting, I love history. This shawlette was inspired by a photograph I saw of 18th century Irish women working, and of course, wearing their warm, country shawls. The delicateness of the fine knitting is in stark contrast to both the wool and their weathered faces and hands.


17 sts and 28 rows in stockinette stitch to measure 4x4 in / 10x10 cm using US 8 / 5mm needles

Sizing / Finished Measurements:

  • 46 in wide by 22 in long (blocked) 116.75 cm wide by 55.75 cm long (blocked)


  • US 8 / 5mm circular needles, 24" / 61cm or longer
  • Additional US 8 / 5 mm straight or circular knitting needles, any length

You Will Also Need:

  • 4 stitch markers
  • tapestry needle
  • blocking pins
  • blocking wires

Suggested yarn:

400 yards of Worsted weight
