(6) Name: 'Knitting : Freja

Basic Skills Necessary:

  • Cast on
  • Knit and purl
  • Knitting small circumferences in the round
  • Stranded colorwork
  • Increase and decrease
  • Picking up stitches along an edge (thumb)

Pattern Description:

Freja, the Nordic goddess of love and fertility, is the inspiration for these mittens. The design started with the pattern of small hearts in the palm, and I knew I wanted to combine it with more hearty shapes. The result is these mittens.

A ribbed cuff and the traditional Norwegian construction with a thumb gusset give the mittens a comfortable fit. They will look good in many color combinations and will shine like little jewels on your hands during cold winter days.
Freja was originally published in Knitty, and can still be found there. It is also found as a free download here.

The pattern is suitable for intermediate knitters and adventurous beginners. Specific required skills are listed above. Colorwork pattern is charted only. The pattern has been professionally tech edited to reduce the possibility for error, but if you have questions or believe that you have found an error, please contact me.
