Pattern Description:
Snowboarder's annual Christmas gift is a hat designed by me for when he hits the slopes. Requirements....it needs to have earflaps and look cool! Beyond cool! This year I didn't even check with him on the design. I just did it! Freestyle. And then I made one for my nephew. And then my sister. Freestyle works for everyone, don't you think?!
Gauge:
16 sts = 4" over st st for toddler and adult large size
18 sts = 4" over st st for adult small size
Sizing / Finished Measurements:
- The earflaps on this hat are knit separately and then knit onto the hat in the first row of the body of the hat. The hat is knit from the bottom up, in the round. Three sizes (toddler, adult small, and adult large) are provided. The adult small size is made by using a slightly lighter worsted yarn and reducing the needle size for a tighter gauge.
- 7 1/4 (8 1/4, 9 1/4)" unstretched width
Materials:
- ~125 (185, 200) yards of heavy worsted weight yarn such as Shibui Knits Merino Alpaca, Rowan Cashsoft Aran, The Plucky Knitter MCN Aran, Malabrigo Rios for toddler and adult large size or worsted weight yarn such The Plucky Knitter Primo Worsted, Kollge Yarns Fantastic, Madelinetosh Vintage for adult small size
- if using contrasting colors, ~ 65 (100, 110) yards of heavy worsted weight yarn for main color and ~ 60 (85, 90) yards of heavy worsted weight yarn for contrasting color
- "Size US 8 (5.0 mm) either DPNs or Circular 16" with DPNs needed for decreases, for toddler and adult large size Size US 7 (4.5 mm) either DPNs or Circular 16" with DPNs needed for decreases, for adult small size "
- Size US 8 (5.0 mm) either DPNs or Circular 16" with DPNs needed for decreases, for toddler and adult large size
- Size US 7 (4.5 mm) either DPNs or Circular 16" with DPNs needed for decreases, for adult small size
