Pattern Description:

Includes both charted and written instructions.

Flintshire is an intricate yet quick to knit cabled hat suitable for both men and women. It's easy to pick between sizes; simply use DK-weight yarn and smaller needles for the smaller size, or switch up to Aran-weight yarn and larger needles for a large women's/men's hat.

DK: 22 sts and 30 rows = 4"/10cm in
Stockinette Stitch with US 6 (4mm) needles

Aran: 18 sts and 24 rows = 4"/10cm in
Stockinette Stitch with US 8 (5mm) needles

Sizing / Finished Measurements:

  • Small/Medium (for 18-21"/46-54cm head circumference)
  • Large/X-Large (for 21-24"/54-61cm head circumference)


  • For Size S/M: 180yd (165m) of DK weight yarn
  • For Size L: 180yd (165m) of aran weight yarn
  • Set of five US 6 (4mm) for S/M, or US 8 (5mm) for L, DPNs or circular needle, at least 40"/100cm long for Magic Loop
