Basic Skills Necessary:

  • knitting in the round
  • provisional cast on
  • kitchener stitch for grafting
  • two color colorwork

Pattern Description:

A stylish colorwork cowl that is right on trend with arrow or chevron motif on a solid background. The color combinations are endless and sure to make a lovely statement with your Fall and Winter layers.

Pattern includes instructions for short and long loops, as shown. Instructions are written, but colorwork pattern is provided in charted format only, which is standard for most colorwork patterns.

This piece is cast on provisionally, worked in the round from end to end as a tube and grafted together to form a loop, using Kitchener stitch.
-Sport weight yarn such as Luna Grey Fiber Arts Orion (100% Merino; 289 yards [264 meters] / 3.53 ounces
[100 grams] or Quince & Co Chickadee (100% wool; 181 yards [166 meters] / 1.76 ounces
[50 grams]
- Color A - 275-300 (500) yards / [252-275 (458) meters]
- Color B - 125 (225) yards / [114 (206) meters]

-US size 6 [4.0 mm] 14-16" [36-40 cm] circular needle, or size needed to obtain gauge (see note below)
-Additional circular needle for grafting, same size as gauge needle, or as close as possible
-Stitch marker for marking end of round
-Waste yarn for provisional cast-on
-Tapestry needle for weaving in ends and grafting


6 sts & 6 rnds = 1" [2.5 cm] in colorwork pattern in the round after blocking
6 sts & 7 rnds = 1" [2.5 cm] in stockinette in the round after blocking

Sizing / Finished Measurements:

  • Short Loop: 27" [69 cm] long/around; 8" [20.5 cm] wide Long Loop: 54" [137 cm] long/around; 6.5" [16.5 cm] wide


  • sport weight yarn
  • US size 6 circular needle in 16" length
