Basic Skills Necessary:
- knitting in the round, casting on, binding off, easy two-color knitting
This eye-catching hat, featuring a bright brim and an easy fleck pattern, is sure to go to the head of the class. A single pattern from the collection, Elementary Hats, also available on Craftsy.
5.5 stitches/inch in stockinette stitch in the round.
Sizing / Finished Measurements:
- Child-sized: 8" from brim to top when measured flat. See guidelines in pattern for sizing up or down.
- 3 colors of worsted weight wool. In the example, I used Knit Picks Swish and Cascade 220. You'll need about 120 yards of main color and fewer than 40 yards each of the two contrasting colors.
You Will Also Need:
- 16" circular needles, size US 7 (4.5 mm) or size needed to obtain gauge (I am a loose knitter so in the example, I used size US 6) and additional needles for small-diameter knitting (DPNs, a second circular or a long Magic Loop needle). For a tighter fit around the head, knit the brim in one size smaller needles and then go up a size for the body of the hat. Tapestry needle.
160 yards of Worsted weight
I used Knit Picks Swish and Cascade 220.
