Pattern Description:

I adapted this scarf from a pattern (Pero Zhar-Ptitsy, "Feather of Firebird") that I found in a Russian knitting book published in 1956. It is my tribute to the centuries-old Russian fairy tale about the magnificent Firebird. The Scarf required about 70 g (2 1/2 oz) of yarn total!

36 sts and 36 rows = 4 inches (10.2 cm) in patt, after blocking

Sizing / Finished Measurements:

  • Finished size: 10 inches (24.4 cm) wide and 56 inches (142.2 cm) long, excluding fringe, after blocking


  • JaggerSpun Super Lamb, 100% merino lambswool yarn, laceweight.
  • The Scarf required about 70 g (2 1/2 oz) of yarn total.
  • Needles size 1 or 2 (2.25 or 2.75mm) or size needed to obtain gauge.

You Will Also Need:

  • Stitch markers
  • Tapestry needle
  • T-pins for traditional blocking (optional)
  • Crochet hook, size F/5(3.75mm) for attaching fringe
