Pattern Description:

The inspiration for this pattern came from an unused Lord of the Rings drawing of a shield for Eomer. This complex-looking tam is not as hard as it looks! A quick, yet fun and challenging knit for intermediate knitters.

Full color pictures, charts and written instructions will guide you through each step. The techniques in the pattern include 3 colors per row, colorworked cables, corrugated ribbing and stranded motifs.

Yarn requirements: less than a skein each of 7 coordinating colors.

Different sizes can be achieved using different needle sizes, and differing weights of yarn.

Gauge:

32 rows x 34 sts = 4" x 4" in colorwork sts

  • Ladies small to medium

  • Knit Picks Palette yarn in forest green heather (115 yds)
  • Knit Picks Palette yarn in autumn heather (12 yds)
  • Knit Picks Palette yarn in salsa heather (45 yds)
  • Knit Picks Palette yarn in turmeric (25 yds)
  • Knit Picks Palette yarn in cornmeal (70 yds)
  • Knit Picks Palette yarn in white (25 yds)
  • Knit Picks Palette yarn in celadon heather (10 yds)
  • US size 1½ (2.5mm) and US size 2 (2.75 mm) 16” circular or dpns, or size needed to get gauge

You Will Also Need:

  • 2 Cable needles
  • Stitch markers
